After testing the dissolved oxygen we found there to be 17.8 mg/L of dissolved oxygen in the stream sample. Dissolved oxygen is needed in the stream for animals like fish, bacteria, and plants. The fish obtain oxygen for respiration in their gills and plants and bacteria use the oxygen for respiration when there is no light for photosynthesis. For bottom feeders like crabs and oysters there is less oxygen needed around 1-6 mg/L but shallow fish need more around 4-15 mg/L. With 17.8mg/L in our stream sample we have a healthy stream and all creatures will have enough to survive.
